MBSR-T Overview

Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction for Teens (MBSR-T) improves the quality of living socially, physically, and psychologically. Through the practice of being mindful, which is about recognizing thoughts and feelings in the present moment, teens become well-prepared for approaching challenging or stressful situations with a reasonable mindset.

Group Therapy

WHEN:
Starting June 24, 2024, this group will meet on Monday’s for 6 weeks from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM.

WHO:
All kids and teens 10 and up are welcome to attend.

COST:
$400 for clients
$450 for new clients

The MBSR-T Group will be led by Leona McLean. Leona is a licensed skills coach at Southlake Counseling and has experience working with anxiety, depression, suicide, personality disorder, post-traumatic disorder, substance abuse, neglect and abuse, childhood trauma, family dysfunction, grief, eating disorders, and self-esteem.

The purpose of an MBSR-T group is to remind teens that they are not alone in their feelings and that everyone is capable of using mindfulness skills to help them deal with stress in their lives. The group also focuses on improving relationships with others by using mindful practices, so having a group of people who understand and are available to practice with is very beneficial.

    Who should take MBSR-T?

    Anyone between the ages of 11 and 15 years old who may be feeling stress, anxiety, disconnection due to Covid, or feelings of isolation. This group is also ideal for teens who want to improve their social skills, have a need for belonging, need help managing emotions, and/or want to improve focus and attention.

    How can group therapy be as effective as individual therapy?

    There are many ways in which group therapy can be just as effective, if not more than individual therapy. Group therapy creates a community of like-minded people who can not only support you but also hold you accountable for skills you are supposed to be learning and practicing. Groups also create a safe space for you to speak, listen, ask questions, and fine-tune the skills you will use in the real world. Additionally, group therapy offers the element of relatability and representation, as you are sitting side by side with actual people who have the same struggles as you.

    Are there any criteria or requirements for the course?

    There are absolutely NO requirements before taking this course. All we ask is that you come with an open mind and be ready to learn how to start living a better life.
